Future Batteries

Why do we still use batteries? Why haven't we figured out a better way than batteries?

We should be better at creating power from sunlight, heat, kinetic energy, and waste. It is 2010 and we are using these funny little cylinders to power our devices. Something should be better than that.

I don't remember the Jetsons having to plug in there iphones all the time.

Conversion

If they start selling beer at Starbucks the conversation i just heard would have ended in fisticuffs.

Once again I am at the local Starbucks using the wireless and and drinking an iced tea. There where already two men sitting in the corner having a heated discussion about politics. I obviously go to the opposite side of the store to sit and put on my headphones. Never pressing play on my itunes i continue listening in on how america is going commie and liberty was based in blood.

This is a common conversation at a bar but here at Starbucks, most people just don't seem to care that much. Everyone goes about there own business and like a library keep there voices low. I have seen people give the stink eye to people who talk too loud on the cell phone. But not today, these two men are having a heated discussion about topics that get people heated. Stink eye was flying around.

If there had been alcohol served here as well as the coffee those stink eyes would have been rude comments. Eventually people with just enough booze in them to feel a little empowered would speak up and a fight would have broken out. Although seeing a fight at Starbucks does sound appealing to me, that is not why I come here, and i think not the reason most people come here.

i love alcohol, and I never thought I would have found a place where I wouldn't want them to serve it but today i found my limit. So please Starbucks, i would love for you not to serve the sauce. Maybe there should just be directions to the local bar if you want to see a fight.

Out of the Office Chronicles

Out of the office again.

Only now with new problems. I recently had an accident chopping green peppers for sunday breakfast. Now I don't have the pad on the right ring finger and instead i have a home made bandage covering it. Typing in a large bandage on one finger is pretty hard but I guess I can make it through.

Sunday I was creating a tasty breakfast before the incident that has left me impaired. The plan was to thinly slice the potatoes, onions, and green peppers making some home-fries. When the home-fries cooked I planed on making fried eggs to go on the hard roll I purchased for the occasion. The eggs where going to have just enough runny yoke so when a bite was taken it would dribble out and land on the plate to be slopped up with my home-fries.

This is a lot of description for just a sunday breakfast but I had been waiting to make this for at least a week. I have been going out with my girlfriend for breakfast the last couple weekends because I forget to buy breakfast materials during my usual shopping. But not this weekend, I had a plan, and I was excited to sleep in and have a diner breakfast in my own kitchen. But the green peppers ruined it. Instead of cuddling on the couch watching sunday tv with our bellies full of breakfast I spent sunday morning on the floor of my bathroom.

The potatoes got cut, and where in the pan. Next was the onions. Then on the last slice of the green pepper shooting pain fired up my finger, through my arm, and up to my head. the flush of pain quickly subsided, and the blood was all I could see in the sink. I grabbed my finger with my other hand and as calmly as i could I hustled to the bathroom. The blood pumped and the pressure of my squeezing the finger was not stopping the rush of red. I put my hand over the bathroom sink let go with the still able hand and blood flowed. Everything drained out of me with the sight of the blood, my muscles became weak. As fast as I could I laid down on the ground with my hand extended upwards over the sink.

Passing out with the sight of my own blood is common, so laying on the ground I had to calm down to create a plan of action. Deep breathes, and soon I could feel myself again. Enough that I thought I could fix my finger from bleeding. Once the clarity came back from the initial flush of blood I could take back over. Getting a bandage on wasn't perfect, but eventually it worked.

I came out of the bathroom about a half hour later fully bandaged and ready to restart the day. The home-fries didn't come out how I wanted them (obviously the green peppers never make it in them) and my girlfriend had to make the egg sandwiches I planned on making for her. I was disappointed in the morning.

There are plenty more Sunday mornings left for breakfast and i will try to be more careful cutting in the future. I guess if nothing happened and I just enjoyed the breakfast I wouldn't have anything to write about now.

New Douche in Town

Well it has happened. I have come into Starbucks with my computer, spent $5 on a iced tea and a pastry and am now going to blog about it. I am an asshole.

It's not all that bad though. I did get to download the new Robert Plant song for free off of the Starbucks website. Advantage me.

It is Tuesday morning and because of work circumstances I have to be outside of my office. Not a bad thing, now I have time to try and use my neglected blogger account. The Starbucks isn't too far from the office so it is almost convenient. But with everything new there are always problems to overcome.

A big problem i seem to be having is that i haven't wrote anything substantial in a long time. Everyday I send two line emails from my phone. This is efficient but brings up two interesting obstacles that I will have to overcome:
1. I don't know how to spell. I never knew how to spell. The auto correct on my iPhone knows that. It allows me to try and spell everything incorrectly and fixing it before i hit the send button. A real computer only mocks me with squiggly red lines under almost every other word. I can feel my computer losing respect for me with every line, I think it is going to start sighing at me for my pitiful display of grammar. Before I send this I will correct the lines because of shame but be lucky you can't see the first attempt.
2. I don't know how to type. I used to be able to type, and type moderately fast. I suppose I am just out of practice and the more I type here the better I will become but I blame the iPhone. That fancy iPhone fixes my spelling and it also fixes my typos. I am now just throwing my fingers around in the direction of the letters I want and hope the computer will figure it out. If my computer was a fifth grade teacher it would suggest I need "special" help.

Those are just the technical problems of starting to write again. I would say the true core of my problems stem from not knowing what I want to write. There are about an infinity of different ideas out in the world. As soon as i sit down to write about one, nothing comes up. I guess i could tell you about the TV I watched last night or how the truck that drove in front of me this morning shouldn't be driving so slow at rush hour but, these seem like marginal topics that are not good. They are not points of interest to the human condition connecting humans and the bigger world we live in. They are just annoying, to me, and to you. I feel like I am missing the inspiration because of the mundane.

Even when a new idea, one that has hope for being a true topic comes up, laziness becomes the new enemy. Laziness, the controlling factor towards to write or not to write. There is always a distraction that can fill time. Blame Twitter or Facebook if you want but without those there would be others. To just sit and write seems like such an old time idea. I cannot imagine Charles Dickens sitting down and writing A Tale of Two Cities. If he was around now would he have dictated it while driving across country for his book tour? Even now the only reason I am writing is because I can't be in my office. I literally have been forced to do something, and this is the something that won over, my second place option was nap in my car. It was a close decision.

Reaching the end of my post my fingers are feeling more nimble and the keys seem to be working easier than in the beginning. Already the spelling errors are further apart. I guess the key to writing is writing. My first attempt of writing in Starbucks is a success even if it is a little cliché. Another attempt will have to be made next time I am annexed from my office.

Come On Blogger

I have an iPhone.

I would like to post blog entries from said iPhone, maybe with pics involved but that isn't the most important thing. I just want and easy interface app for blogger.

I can't find a decent one.

Your better than that blogger.

Catching up

Netflix streaming has changed my world.

I am not much a fan of cable television, and waiting for DVDs in the mail was getting old. I was looking for something to fill time. Options of doing productive things quickly went out the window so I looked for other forms of entertainment. Video Games was the first option but after a couple of weeks pressing through a couple games i realized I needed a more passive form of entertainment. that sounds pretty lazy but I needed something that I could put down at anytime and not feel pressed to keep going. Games make me want to finish them, and only having a couple hours at night after work before it was time for bed, I never felt I could fully invest in the games I was playing.

Not sure why it took so long to get the Netflix account. I suppose it was the notion that I would have the free time at night to do things that would be more "productive". This never happened. Signing up was easy, and the first thing I watched was Men in Black, for 28 seconds to test some quality and take it for a test run. I was very excited.

I love movies, but as I was browsing I saw Law and Order Criminal Intent. I started from the beginning and watched straight through the seasons. Then I started This American Life. Next it was Dead Like Me. All of the shows that I wanted to watch but never had the time to find the DVDs or rent through the seasons. A quick side note Dead Like Me wasn't very good but I watched through it all, and the terrible movie. I began Rescue Me and flew through that series. I just finished season 1 of Avatar the last airbender and will have to wait for the other two seasons to be rented on DVD.

As of right now I am involved in the X-files. I never watched when it was on tv but as of now I am enjoying the hell out of it. Maybe I should have watched it back in the 90s

Writing in Sunshine

I'm glad the sun is back. It's always nicer to walk to get the mail when you can go straight out and not have to worry about jackets. Usually when I take my walk I have a podcast or something to listen to but today I am trying out something different. Blogging and walking.

It been a quiet day and as I walk through town no one is on the side walks even though the temperature is very nice. I always find it interesting that the first nice day after a long period of bad weather, everyone is outside. The next day the weather can be just as nice and no one cares.

Ok, good walk and blog.

Turning 3

Happy Birthday small piece of a huge server somewhere. Today is your day!

Three years ago I started this "blog". I put the quotation marks up because this has not really been much of a blog, it has been just some documentation of what i have been up to. Although in the last year the development of twitter really took over with the convenience of just posting a line or two instead of having to sit down and think about my thoughts and putting them on here.

Being the birthday I am tempted to look back over the three years and see how much things have changed and how different things are. I am not going to do that. It is easy enough to look back, it's all here, it's an archive.

I want to say i will take more time to get here and write some stuff.
