The presidential elections are so boring. It is almost impossible to track which candidate is saying what to who. Then, after the primary is over, we get to pick from the two dummies who leads us for the next 4 years by not doing anything of real importance.
I wonder how much coverage the election would have gotten if the writers strike didn't happen. I guess that we would all be watching the new shows now instead of being forced to watch either the election coverage or reality TV (another reason I still do not have TV). I guess it is good for the American people to see there candidates but until there is more diversity in the process then i don't think anything will change here We need a solid third party to make candidates actually show what they stand for. Now they just use rhetoric to bring down the competition.
I remember in a class I took about how the founding fathers worried about having a republic-democracy because it can be taken over by gang rule. At the time communication did not spread instantly so getting mass support would have been almost impossible and the founding fathers ratified our system. But now, with instant mass communication, gang rule is exactly how this government works. Although the one thing that I don't think the Fathers could have factored in was our nation wide short attention span.
Example: Remember the outrage for toys with led in them. That was November/December and people where up in arms about how it NEEDS to be fixed. I haven't heard anything about that for a month now. Was it fixed, i doubt it, but if it isn't on the TV now then it doesn't matter.
Although our attention span has been taught to us by years of watching the news over exaggerate anything they can to get more viewers. Weather, scams, old people dying, anything they can make sound important they will. So you get excited, at least until the next days newscast.
I am going to make a prediction about the 2012 election: they talk about cutting taxes, they talk about country wide healthcare, and they talk about America's security and why we need troop where-ever they are.
I am not going to waste my time following this silly system, instead i will continue trying to improve my life and maybe even my community. If a politician happens to align with what I agree with then I will care again but I can't see that happening.
